High School Biology to College Professor...I'm a military spouse who taught high school biology until a PCS (Permanent Change of Station) move to Germany found me without a job. Fortunately I had just finished my master's degree in Environmental Biology so was hired to teach evening classes for soldiers with UMUC (University of Maryland University College). Since moving back to the United States I've continued teaching for UMUC where I teach online courses and now also teach face to face classes at Howard Community College. The classes I teach at both institutions are for first year students and many of these students are not planning to major in science. It's a challenge to make science relevant, approachable and interesting to these students, and one that I enjoy very much! I started blogging 1 1/2 years ago as a way to "manage and increase" my online presence, as advised in a facebook group, so that students would learn a little more about me when googling my name. Science Teacher Blog...I see blogging as an extension of my teaching - pointing out and explaining a little bit of science behind things in everyday life. I've written about native and non native species seen on a trip to Germany, how our eyes work when viewing a meteor shower, and why the sun shines all day and night during summers in Alaska.
What do you want to see?Early on a blog community that I joined hosted a Blog Interview so I wrote about starting my blog. This Blog Story was inspired by the #EdublogsClub that I'm joining in order to encourage me to write blogs more regularly - hopefully more than just summer and winter breaks, and to increase my readership.
Please let me know if you'd like to see a specific topic covered in the blog or if you have any advice on blogging! Thanks for reading!!
